You know I’m kinda shocked that there hasn’t been a fic (or at least I haven’t found one) where Freakshow has the ghosts of the Flying Grayson’s and renames them the Flying Ghouls or some bs.

Like I can imagine Freakshow seeing the ghosts of two of the greatest acrobats of all time and thinking, I need them for my show!

But could you imagine Circus Gothica is in Gotham and Dick ropes his siblings to the circus cuz he is the big brother and he watch to go to the circus!!!

But then the “Flying Ghouls” come out and he can’t really see their faces but he KNOWS those moves and Tim backs him up because he ALSO KNOWS those moves!

I imagen that Dick every time something about his parents comes up or when he fights with Bruce he just reverts to his feral teenage self and starts doing things by himself like back when he first became Nightwing.

So Nightwing sneaks into the circus after hours and meets the Flying Ghouls and immediately know that they are his parents. They managed think clearly when they realized Nightwing was their little Robin and have enough energy to fight back against the mind control and warn their boy before Freakshow came back.

They tell him about ghosts and how the met another boy that reminded them of Dick and to find him and he will help free them!

So Dick then sets off to find Danny Fenton.

The news about AI scraping also reaching this nook of the internet (tho' I don't doubt there's been scraping already before this) has been going around and I'd like to write a little word about my feelings on it.

For awhile this direction of art theft in the art and writers communities has been weighing a lot of people down. I've seen many familiar faces stop posting at all, probably out of fear of their beloved work being thieved away.

I don't really talk about it, but many times it has deterred me from posting or even working on some pieces purely from a sense of melancholy and sadness. Every time news about the topic comes out it creates a new kind of wave of despair. I get the feeling, what's the point, if the AI created sludge is enough for the public, if such surface level imagery fulfills peoples wants for art, then what's the point of me sharing my work at all? To just keep posting to feed a machine.

But then I sit at my desk and draw something. Paint something by myself. And I remember, why I do art at all. The feeling of creating is irreplaceable, the joy I get out of the struggle of creation can't be taken away from me. The way one pours their thoughts, feelings and even the tiniest things that might feel so insignificant to oneself so candidly onto paper. And then. AND THEN. One might be brave enough to share those pieces to others. Post them online, show a friend, a family member. To show your vulnerable self to others, and those others respond. They comment, ask questions, perceive it and best of all... ..might get inspired, and create something for themselves!

I remember reading a magazine once, that had a page at the back with all these art works readers had sent in, and I though 'wow, these are great'! And that really inspired me to create more than I already was doing, and most of all to share it with people. That's why way back when I started sharing my art in online spaces. And I don't want to stop, because I don't want us to lose that connection. That human connection, because that's what sharing art is really about, our humanity. Sharing thoughts and feelings, not about generating the most technically perfect piece of art, void of all human error.

So, I'd like to say, do not despair (but keep fighting). There are always people out there to receive your heart.

the person that you're going off at for saying that nettles wouldn't be the only black person did not say that bc of rhaena and baela we don't need more black people in the show. they were trying to reply to your point cause its you guys reducing nettles down to a representation token character.

We have plenty of black characters, so that can't be the reason we need Nettles?

That's not racist. It sounds like we have a quota to fill, but it's not racist.

Again, they go on to list the 'already black' characters we have so we shouldn't need Nettles.

Nettles place in the story still works if all Valyrians looked like Velayrons and are played by black actors. We can still question the world.

We reduce Nettles to her race alone?

In my original post responding to them, I distinctly sent three posts. One about how Nettles is meant to parallel Daenerys. One about how Nettles is Rhaenyra's character foil and one about how George uses her to subvert actual stereotypes used against black women specifically.

I don't think it's tokenism to say that as a black character, her story is important. I think the reason race is brought up so much is because she subverts very convention for black women in fantasy, even in asoiaf, there isn't a character like her.

Not even in my response did I reduce her to her race but it needs to be said that the Velaryons are not black characters who can subvert these tropes. Nettles is.

I'm not even calling the person racist but there is a clear issue. They are acting as though we have no reason to add Nettles when we have plenty, especially in a show where the black women play into a lot of stereotypes and tropes that Nettles' story inherently defies.

For the third time, I welcome everyone to my blog because I have recently reached 2000 posts (it's been two years, its probably more) and can say that at least 250 are about Nettles and why she matters. I've answered these questions before with a lot less condescension and more focus to the point. Hell, reach in these asks, and I'll link the post to these questions myself.

You all don't care about her character, nor do you care about Rhaena or Baela or whoever else you think will fill her place. You care about a ship that's doomed if they don't include Nettles because she defines their characters towards the end.
